Spendesk, a leading spend management and procurement platform for mid-market companies, has appointed Alfonso Marone as Executive Chairman of its Board. This strategic move is expected to drive innovation and foster profitable growth for Spendesk in 2025.
Marone brings nearly three decades of experience in global strategic leadership, business innovation, and corporate development. A former KPMG UK Equity Partner, he is also the founder of Point79, a London-based advisory firm. A graduate of INSEAD with an MBA and Corporate Governance qualifications, Marone has worked with top-tier companies such as Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC (now Delinian), NBCUniversal, and O2, along with renowned investment firms, specialising in B2B technology, data analytics, and the information sector.
This governance change comes at a pivotal moment for Spendesk as the company invests heavily in the development of its procurement software solutions and prepares to introduce new AI-enhanced capabilities. The addition of Marone to the leadership team is seen as a key move to strengthen the company’s governance structure, splitting the roles of Founder, Chair, and CEO among three complementary leaders.
Speaking about his appointment, Marone said: “This new structure enables us to harness the visionary leadership of Founder Rodolphe Ardant, the operational expertise of CEO Axel Demazy, and my strategic oversight to enhance governance and drive value for Spendesk. I have really enjoyed partnering with Rodolphe and Axel over the past few months, and I am honoured to officially join Spendesk’s Board as Executive Chairman. The company’s work in building the first procure-to-pay platform for mid-market companies in the UK and Europe is truly inspiring.”
Marone has already been working closely with Spendesk to implement a comprehensive value creation plan with a clear path to profitability in 2025. As Executive Chairman, Marone will chair the Board of Directors and act as a key liaison between shareholders—including General Atlantic, Index, Eight Roads, Hexa, and Tiger Global—and the executive team. He will also collaborate with the Founder to drive innovation in Office-of-the-CFO solutions, form strategic partnerships, and steer Spendesk towards further expansion and eventual liquidity for its shareholders.
Axel Demazy, CEO of Spendesk, expressed his enthusiasm about Marone’s appointment: “Alfonso’s leadership brings a fresh perspective and a unique ability to align our shareholders and executive team. His guidance marks a significant step in enhancing governance and unlocking value for both our customers and stakeholders.”
Spendesk, which is recognised for creating the first procure-to-pay platform tailored for mid-market companies in the UK and Europe, is preparing for significant expansion. With Marone’s strategic oversight and a clear roadmap for growth, Spendesk aims to maintain its position as a leader in the rapidly growing spend management sector.
