The inaugural Saxony-Anhalt Business Award 2024 has honoured two companies for their exceptional contributions to the region’s economic development. Presented by Sven Schulze, Minister for Economic Affairs, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry of Saxony-Anhalt, the awards were given to companies that have made a significant impact through innovation, commitment, and overcoming economic challenges.
Speaking at the awards ceremony held at the Old Theater in Magdeburg, Minister Schulze highlighted the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups in driving the state’s economic growth. “Small and medium-sized businesses, as well as start-ups, are the backbone of our economy,” Schulze said. “Their creativity, commitment, and innovative strength are essential to our prosperity and play a crucial role in ensuring Saxony-Anhalt’s future.”
In the “Companies” category, Ramme Electric Machines GmbH was named the winner. Based in Osterwieck in the Harz Mountains, the company specialises in producing highly efficient electric motors for the shipping industry, helping to reduce pollutant emissions. Despite being a relatively young business, Ramme has experienced rapid growth, with its workforce nearly doubling to 115 employees within just two years. The company’s commitment to both innovation and its local community was also recognised, with Ramme sponsoring local sports clubs and engaging in regional collaborations.
Another winner of the Saxony-Anhalt Business Award was Raydiax GmbH, which took the prize in the “Start-up” category. Founded in 2022, this Magdeburg-based company has developed an innovative therapy assistance computer tomography system that aids in cancer surgeries. Raydiax’s system, which reduces radiation exposure for both patients and medical staff, has garnered attention globally for its potential to revolutionise cancer treatment. With just 20 employees, the company plans to expand rapidly through partnerships with leading German hospitals. Additionally, Raydiax is seeking ERDF funding to further enhance healthcare in Saxony-Anhalt by advancing interventional radiology.
The Saxony-Anhalt Business Award aims to recognise companies and start-ups that significantly influence the state’s economic development. To qualify, businesses must have fewer than 250 employees and be based in Saxony-Anhalt. The award’s criteria include innovation, regional responsibility, and the ability to secure skilled workers. Start-ups were additionally evaluated on market demand and growth potential.
A total of 115 applications were received this year, with 63 from established companies and 52 from start-ups. After careful evaluation by a high-calibre jury, nine companies were shortlisted for their outstanding achievements. The prize includes €15,000 for companies and €10,000 for start-ups. Winners will also be featured in the state’s promotional materials as “ambassadors of success.”
The Saxony-Anhalt Business Award underscores the region’s commitment to supporting and promoting innovation and economic resilience, positioning local companies for continued success on both the national and international stages. More Information: www.wirtschaftspreis-sachsen-anhalt.de
